“Finally!” I cried out ecstatically, glad to have finally opened a portal, a portal to another world.

“What is it?” Kodd Enbargo, my assistant roommate asked. “ Oh, this is an interdimensional portal, though I don’t think you would understand, given your low level of intellect. This will solve the resource crisis and bring an end to the war on our planet.” I explained.

“Seems interesting,” Kodd replied, ignoring the insult.

I turned on the portal, and an irregular blob-like purplish anomaly about the size of a large soccer ball appeared out of nowhere in front of us. I picked up a bag and started walking towards it.

“Wait. Can’t I come along with you? You never know what dangers might be waiting on the other side.” Kodd asked.

“No. Only people at my level of intellect should enter this world. Either way, you always end up causing trouble, so if you want to pay back the million times I’ve helped you, do it by not doing anything at all.” I said and walked into the portal.

What I saw on the other side was a barren Earth. I found myself in a gigantic abandoned city. I thought I was alone when a robot-like creature ambushed me with a revelation of its presence.

“ I come in peace!” I shouted, but kept walking, and felt an electric surge go through my body. The next second, I found myself in a huge room with a giant computer-like machine. I was in a cage. An armada peculiar dull grey brain-shaped creature floated towards me.

“We are the Metions, the greatest assimilators and largest hive mind of the Galaxy, and the victors of the great dimensional war. Tell us how to enter your universe or suffer the fate of the rest of the animatronics.” It said, but before I could reply, a huge explosion rattled the building.

The floor and cage broke open. It was Kodd. “Let’s go.” He said, and we jumped out of a hole, which I guessed, was the place from which Kodd had entered the building.

We found ourselves back near the portal, in the abandoned city, except we were being surrounded by millions of humanoid animatronics. We ran to the portal, and Kodd told me to enter it. “No” I refused, but I was met with a punch to the face.

I woke up to find myself back in my apartment, and a note was kept on my table. On it was written- “If you’re reading this then that means everything has gone according to plan. I knew for sure that there would be some danger in the other world, so I decided to follow you and took along one of your incendiary explosives. I am another common human being, but you-you have great talent that this world needs. I have sacrificed myself, but at least I saved the world from that animatronic empire.”- Your Friend, Kodd.

As i wiped the tears from my eyes, I understood the lesson of a lifetime that Kodd had taught me. I learnt that a man without true friends is like a sheep without its flock. Alone and unprotected from the dangers and obstacles of the world. I may have saved the world, but it came at a great cost. Now, I tell this story to all my followers, and I work to honour Kodd’s memory and make sure no more true friends are lost.

Hmm. Nice story but why did you make a website for short stories. I don’t think short stories deserve a website

Noted. I am planning to expand this website into several categories for different topics in the future which may include (not limited to) space and technology blogging, and game-development blogging.

      Thanks!
